At about 19: 00 on April 29th, six National Day panda babies, with an average age of about one and a half years, successfully arrived at Beijing Zoo from Sichuan China Research Center for the Protection of Giant Pandas after a 10-hour long journey.
10-hour long journey
At 8 o’clock in the morning on the 29th, the reporter came to the Panda Garden in Bifengxia Base of China Conservation Giant Panda Research Center in Sichuan. It’s already crowded here. Six iron cages filled with baby pandas are arranged horizontally, and the breeders are feeding them fresh bamboo.
"This male baby is called Xiangge and was born on August 7, 2007." The breeder told the reporter. At this time, Xiangge, sitting in a cage, was embarrassed and humiliated, holding bamboo shoots in her hands and sending them to her mouth. After breakfast, they will be sent to Chengdu Shuangliu Airport by special bus and transferred to the 14: 00 flight to Beijing.
According to Zhang Hemin, director of Wolong Nature Reserve Administration and director of China Giant Panda Protection Research Center, the six giant pandas born in Wolong suffered a major earthquake before they were sensible, and they have undergone severe tests from breeding to management. In order to celebrate the 60th birthday of New China, strengthen the scientific research cooperation and popular science education of giant pandas, China Research Center for the Protection of Giant Pandas and Beijing Zoo jointly launched the activity of "Wolong Giant Panda Going to Beijing to Welcome National Day".
At 19 o’clock on the 29th, six giant pandas arrived at Beijing Zoo successfully. The reporter saw at the scene of Beijing Zoo that many staff members had been waiting in front of the Giant Panda Pavilion to welcome distinguished "guests" from afar with applause.
"The six giant pandas are in good condition as a whole, except for one who is slightly depressed, and the rest are in excellent condition." Zhang Jinguo, deputy director of Beijing Zoo, who made a special trip to Sichuan to welcome the pandas, said.
According to Zhang Jinguo, before boarding the plane, the breeder provided the giant panda with enough water and food, and the flight also specially added pressurization and oxygen supply equipment to the cargo hold where the giant panda was riding. At about 16: 30, the giant panda arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport. After some necessary inspection and quarantine, he arrived at Beijing Zoo around 19: 00.
Selected from 13 pandas
In the accommodation area of the Panda Pavilion, the newly settled pandas seem to have no strangeness to this brand-new home. Some of them walk leisurely in the house, and some begin to taste fresh bamboo with relish. The most exciting thing is that one pair of twins actually climbed to the roof along the railing in the house.
"The six giant pandas were selected from 13 pandas born in Wolong in 2007." Zhang Jinguo told reporters that the basic conditions of choice include beautiful appearance, such as round mouth and black and white coat color; Personality should be lively and pleasing; Good health, strong adaptability and so on. At the same time, the six giant pandas should be compatible, that is to say, none of them can be particularly grumpy.
At present, these six giant pandas have their own lovely names, namely: Huaao, Xiangge, Qingfeng, Jinyi, Shuiling and Wenyu, among which the first three are males and the last three are females.
Meeting with tourists on May 1 ST
In the accommodation area of the Giant Panda Pavilion, the reporter saw that the food for giant pandas in Beijing was very rich: golden wowotou, fresh bamboo, freshly washed carrots …
Beijing Zoo has made careful preparations for the giant pandas coming from afar, and set up a working group to be responsible for the disease prevention and daily feeding management of giant pandas coming to Beijing. In order to provide fresh and delicious bamboo for giant pandas, we specially increased the purchase from Henan, ensuring that six pandas have 150 kilograms of fresh bamboo and 12 kilograms of fresh bamboo shoots every day.
In order to provide a comfortable living environment for giant pandas, Beijing Zoo has thoroughly cleaned and disinfected seven animal houses and four sports grounds in the Panda Pavilion, overhauled the equipment and facilities in the pavilion, such as the shelving, cold storage and monitoring, re-paved the lawn in the exhibition hall, carried out the "enrichment" work, and added two new tire rings for giant pandas to play with.
At the same time, Wolong will send keepers to Beijing in batches to take care of the life of the giant panda. Huangshan, a Wolong breeder who arrived in Beijing with the giant panda on the same plane on the 29th, has been engaged in panda breeding since 2004. He told reporters that the exhibition hall of Beijing Zoo has a good environment, the dormitory conditions are good and the food is clean and hygienic. "I believe the giant panda will definitely live happily in his new home!"
After a day’s rest and adjustment on the 30th, six giant pandas will begin to meet with Beijing citizens and tourists on May 1st, and will initially stay in Beijing for one year. (Reporter Lai Renqiong, Wang Jianxin, Wei He)
