On April 26th, RELX Yueke (Wuxin Technology) announced the launch of the "Zero Carbon Journey Aim for Zero" plan: with eight carbon reduction measures, direct operation carbon neutrality will be achieved in 2033 and carbon neutrality in the whole value chain will be achieved in 2050.
Eight carbon reduction measures, carbon neutrality in the whole value chain layout
The carbon footprint of an engraving product covers many aspects such as product design, manufacturing, circulation, sales and product use. In order to integrate the concept of low carbon into the whole life cycle of products, at the production end, we will implement a waste management plan to gradually reduce office waste, production waste and laboratory waste, and plan to reduce the landfill ratio of waste by 30% by 2033 with 2021 as the base year.
At the same time, Yueke will, through management and technological innovation, adopt targeted ways such as improving efficiency and reducing emissions, using renewable energy and carbon offset, so as to achieve net zero emissions of at least one self-owned factory and build a model of zero-carbon factory in 2033, and plan to establish a green supply chain partnership mechanism to encourage supply chain partners to increase the proportion of renewable energy and set phased emission reduction targets. In logistics and packaging procurement, Yueke will also give priority to partners who can provide low-carbon transportation services and green packaging.
In terms of products, Yueke started to reduce carbon from three aspects: reducing plastic, reducing the carbon footprint of products and recycling empty bombs. By 2025, Yueke will eliminate unnecessary disposable plastic packaging, and by 2033, 100% plastic packaging of Yueke products will be reusable, recyclable or degradable. In addition, Yueke is integrating the low-carbon concept into the whole product life cycle, and increasing investment and research and development of low-carbon products by using renewable and recycled materials. By 2025, Yueke will launch at least one zero-carbon product.
Previously, Yueke has always adhered to low-carbon and energy-saving production and operation. According to RELX Yueke Social Responsibility Report 2020-2021, in 2020, the production waste of Yueke Factory decreased by 76% compared with 2019. At the same time, by improving and optimizing the process, the production capacity of Yueke Factory will increase by over 30% in 2020, and the actual unit energy consumption of water, electricity, gas and other energy sources will be effectively reduced by over 20%. In the process of purchasing raw materials and spare parts, Yueke selects all materials that meet or exceed the national environmental protection requirements.
Recycling empty bombs, green stores,Yueke carbon neutral and pay attention to user participation
It is worth mentioning that user participation is also an important part of Yueke’s carbon reduction measures. It is understood that the empty bomb recovery plan that Yueke started in September 2021 will cover the whole country in 2022. At the same time, Yueke also plans to increase the number of empty bombs recovered by 2025 by 200% compared with 2022.
The empty bomb recovery plan was jointly initiated by Yueke and China Siyuan Engineering Foundation for Poverty Alleviation. The reporter learned that the recovery of empty bombs in the e-cigarette industry has always been a difficult problem: traditional treatment methods such as incineration and landfill can not solve the pain points of secondary pollution and waste of resources, but also bring about derivative problems such as land occupation and fly ash.
Yueke, through the collaborative disposal technology of cement kiln, concentrated the recovered empty bombs into cement clinker, which was then made into cement for rural revitalization, realizing the reuse of resources and allowing the empty bombs to exert their residual heat. At present, the first "Siyuan Road for Common Prosperity" has also been built in Chenggenying Village, Huangqi Town, Fengning Manchu Autonomous County, Hebei Province.
The empty bomb recycling plan not only innovatively solves the problem of abandoned empty bombs, but also continuously calls on consumers to practice carbon reduction and green consumption. By the end of April, the project will soon enter 188 cities, with more than 17,000 stores nationwide participating.
In addition, Yueke has also set the goal of building green stores. By setting green store standards, adopting recyclable materials, modular design and energy-saving equipment, Yueke will promote at least one store to obtain green certification by 2023, and gradually promote green stores to the whole country. At the same time, Yueke also encourages employees to work and travel in a low-carbon way.
The goal of "peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060" is an accelerator for China to promote energy conservation, emission reduction and low-carbon development, and it is also an important proposition faced by all industries. In January 2022, the State Tobacco Monopoly Bureau issued the "Implementation Opinions", requiring the whole industry to do a solid job in carbon neutrality in peak carbon dioxide emissions and accelerate the green and low-carbon development of the industry. E-cigarette-related enterprises also have the responsibility to actively set carbon neutral targets and take cumulative actions.
